My Encounter With Bob Rae @ Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy By Ashok Charles

The Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy sponsors an annual debate in cooperation with the Hart House Debate Committee at the University of Toronto. Having learned that the resolution of this year’s debate would be: “Support for democracy should be the foundation for Canadian foreign policy,” and that Bob Rae would be speaking afterwards, I decided to attend.

As it happened, I had started reading Bob Rae’s most recent book, Exporting Democracy, and had been impressed with the breadth of the political and historical context contained in the first section. As part of his historical overview, he sketches out the contrasting notions of Thomas Paine, who advocated an uncompromising expression of the theory of egalitarian democracy, and Edmund Burke, who proposed great caution when modifying established institutions.

Violations des droits humains au Canada monarchique – Republique Canadienne

Le Canada est, sous une monarchie étrangère, réellement démocratique, libre et respectueux des droits de l’homme? Avec un tel affichage manifeste d’un manque de droits de l’homme et l’égalité dans les monarchies, pourquoi le Canada, un pays qui s’enorgueillit de la liberté et l’égalité de “sujet” tous les citoyens lui-même pour un tel dénigrement par des liens de maintien, rituelles ou réel, un étranger, la monarchie à l’étranger?
L’élu chef d’État du Canada est actuellement la monarchie du Royaume-Uni, actuellement représentée par la famille royale britannique, actuellement la reine Élisabeth II et remplacé par le prince Charles. Vous et moi sommes «sujet» à eux. En d’autres termes, nous sommes en dessous d’eux, à la fois juridiquement et philosophiquement.

Il ya un an cette semaine, nous nous sommes réunis dans tous les coins de la terre pour encourager les jeunes athlètes à la grandeur. Si les Jeux olympiques de Vancouver avait couleurs officielles, elles sont certainement rouge et blanc. La Feuille d’érable était partout, et les meilleures pièces ont été où notre drapeau s’est hissé à peine plus élevé que les autres, en position médaille d’or. Pour les souches de notre hymne national, nous étions, il courroies sur, retenant des larmes, avec une boule dans la gorge. Il me sentais très bien, avec tout le monde, de ne voir aucun drapeau plus haut.

C’est pourquoi, sur cette 46e anniversaire de notre bien-aimé Feuille d’érable, c’est insultant que les règles fédérales ont encore besoin de prendre la deuxième place. Le ministère du Patrimoine canadien décrets que le drapeau canadien sera éclipsé par les bannières personnelles de toute la famille royale britannique, gouverneur général, lieutenant-gouverneur ou, à tout moment ils sont à proximité. Par un chef d’accusation, pas moins de 30 fanions personnels rebondir la Feuille d’érable d’une place de choix.

Une autre visite royale coûterait des millions aux contribuables

Toronto, le 17 fevrier 2011 – Le bureau du Premier ministre a confirmé hier que les jeunes mariés le Prince William et Kate Middleton visiteront le Canada cet été et que la tournée sera payée à partir de fonds fédéraux et provinciaux..

L’organisation Citoyens et citoyennes pour une république canadienne (CCRC) continue à poser la question à savoir pourquoi les contribuables canadiens devraient défrayer le coût des visites des membres de la famille royale.

“Déjà d’une part que le coût d’une visite de la Reine au Canada soit exorbitant, dit Tom Freda, directeur national de Citoyens et citoyennes pour une république canadienne, mais de plus de défrayer le coût d’une visite pour ses enfants et petits-enfants n’a aucun sens.

Human Rights Abuses in Monarchical Canada

Is Canada, under a foreign monarchy, really democratic, free and respectful of human rights? With such an overt display of a lack of human and equality rights under monarchies, why would Canada, a country that prides itself on freedom and the equality of all citizens ‘subject’ itself to such a denigration by keeping ties, ceremonial or real, to a foreign, overseas monarchy?

The elected Head of State of Canada is currently the monarchy of the United Kingdom, currently represented by the British royal family, currently queen Elizabeth II and succeeded by prince Charles. You and I are ‘subject’ to them. In other words, we are below them, both legally and philosophically.

We must ‘bear true allegiance’ to the queen and on top of that, ‘bear true allegiance’ to her ‘Heir and Successors’. There is thus, no such thing as equality in a monarchy. The very notion that one human being is above the others is inequality at its core. We must always defer to every member of the monarchy in order to be ‘kept in our place’.
