Swear loyalty to Canada, not queen

The town council in Hearst, Ontario, is asking the provincial government to change its requirement to have councilors swear allegiance to the queen. The town agreed with a request by councilor André Rhéaume that he be permitted to swear allegiance to Canada instead. The proposal would offer councilors the choice to swear to queen or country.

It’s up to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs. A word to minister Rick Bartolucci might help. Use the form on this page:
